“God may put a Goliath in front of us, but God also equips us with a David inside us.”

“David said to the Philistine, ‘You come against me with a dagger, spear and a sword, but I come against you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel’s armies-you have defied Him.’” 1 Samuel 17:45
Our scripture comes from the well known bible story of David and Goliath. I assume that a lot of us have heard this story, but if not, let me share a summary.
David was the youngest of 7 sons, considered a weaker link to his family. He did not appear fit to fight in the army for Israel, so he shared the duties of a shepherd boy, caring for his old father and bringing supplies to the army. One day, after being sent to check on his brothers, David found himself at the perimeter of the camp as the armies (the Philistines and the army of Israel) were lining up for the battle. David witnessed the “champion Philistine” come out to the battle line and taunt Israelite’s army. It's said that Goliath was more than 9 feet tall, his armor alone weighing as much as a grown man, appearing as a victorious enemy to the untrained eye.
David heard the mocking of God's own army and got pretty heated. Frustrated that the Israelites ran from Goliath instead of defending their God, he offered to go and fight Goliath alone, taking only stones and a staff.
This leads us to our verse today. David stood in front of this giant and declared with full, unshakable faith, that though Goliath comes to him with sword and strength, David comes with the ultimate power, the power of God.
And it makes me wonder… have you ever felt like little David? Have you felt ill-equipped, less than, unqualified for the battle that is before you? Too small to fill the shoes of the demands of life? Too overwhelmed to even think about picking up the sword and taking on the challenges ahead of you? Barely enough mental capacity to worry, let alone be a warrior? If so, mama, you’re not alone. I write these words because they are the bare-naked truth of my heart sometimes.
But remember… God may put a Goliath in front of us, but God also equips us with a David inside us. God is waiting, wanting to empower us for these battles. He is with us through the wars in life. He alone will meet us where we are and be victorious over the giants in front of us.
Action step:
Cry out to God that you’re desperate to be a warrior. Ask Him to equip you. Remind yourself of the resurrection power that runs in your veins.

Let me pray His word back to Him on behalf of you: Father, I thank You that we can just come to you, scared, worried, fearful of the battle that lays ahead of us. I thank You for Your word in Romans that reminds us that in all these things we are more than victorious through You who loves us. I thank You for the angels that surround us, fighting these battles for us. I thank You that we can trust in the fact that You are always victorious. You are a good Father, and we rest in Your promises. Amen.
