Present Your Requests

“When we go to Him in prayer and petition, our hearts go from anxiety-filled to gratitude-filled.”

ree
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

Motherhood comes with a never ending list of anxieties and worries, from the moment we see a positive pregnancy test, to kindergarten, to teen years… and I’ve yet to meet an older mom who doesn’t still worry about her adult children sometimes.

“What if there’s something wrong with my baby?”

“What if my child doesn’t thrive in kindergarten?”

“What if my teen is exposed to something I don’t want them exposed to?”

“What if something bad happens to my child?”

And the list goes on and on and on and on…

Guess what, mama? God doesn’t wonder about these things. He already knows all of our children’s days and loves our children more than we can even comprehend. He totally has them!

But knowing this comforting truth doesn’t always make the anxiety disappear. It definitely helps, but the rest of this verse is the key to actually warring against our anxieties. We need to present our worries, our requests, to God, because He cares and wants to help calm our hearts. When we go to Him in prayer and petition, our hearts go from anxiety-filled to gratitude-filled.

The more we go to God with our anxieties, the more we can lay down. We weren’t meant to carry heavy burdens or to worry about the future. We have to be moms who lay those worries down at the feet of Jesus, and then let Him work through it.

Take a moment to:

  • Think about what you’ve been carrying around, the anxiety you’ve been holding onto. How does knowing that God is for your child help soothe your anxiety?

  • Lay down whatever it is you’re carrying. It might help to imagine Jesus is standing right in front of you and that you are physically laying down whatever anxiety is weighing on you.

  • Read Psalm 77:11-12. Remembering God’s faithfulness overcomes anxiety with joy and thanksgiving.
