“She could have had great anxiety, been fearful, continued to be troubled, and maybe she did, but we also see that she was full of praise for God.”

“And Mary said, ‘My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,’” Luke 1:46-47 (ESV)
Motherhood. It’s beautiful, wonderful, entertaining, heart-wrenching, humbling, demanding, and at times, frustrating. A calling like no other.
Moms are snuggle givers, dinner cookers, kid drivers, calendar keepers, question answerers, boo-boo kissers, love spreaders, lost item finders, house cleaners, advice givers, and their children’s biggest fans.
We can do it all.
But we can’t do it all alone. If you’ve ever tried to do motherhood without God, you know how difficult that is. Almost impossible.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, is an excellent model of faith for all moms. Her faith was so strong that God chose her to be the mother of Christ, the Messiah, the earthly form of God Himself. Mary wasn’t chosen because she was someone important, but because she loved God so much that she “found favor with God” (verse 30). She genuinely trusted that God would do what He said He would do. How great her faith must have been!
In the first chapter of Luke, Mary goes from troubled (verse 29) to doubtful (verse 34), and then, despite her apprehension, says yes to God (verse 38). She could have had great anxiety, been fearful, continued to be troubled, and maybe she did, but we also see that she was full of praise for God. She recognized God’s greatness and His power and praised Him for it.
Moms, let’s have faith in God as big as Mary’s was. Let’s love Him with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our minds. Let’s invite Him to be part of motherhood with us, and let’s praise Him through all the trials.
Action Step:
Take time this weekend to rest and do something for you! Enjoy time with your family! Happy Mother’s Day, moms!
Prayer: God, may my soul always rejoice and magnify You! May my faith be as strong as Mary’s. I invite You into motherhood with me, because I can’t do it without You. You are so, so good to me. Amen.
