What's On Your Mind?

“If we continue to invite Him into our moments of feeling overwhelmed, He will meet us there with a peace that surpasses all understanding.”

"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 (NLT)

You know on Facebook where it asks, “What’s on your mind?” when you go to make a new post? As a mom, I feel that like is a loaded question! A question that I sometimes want to type out the answer in one long run-on sentence about what is truly on my mind. Can you imagine that sentence? It feels like there is so much on my mind that I can’t even put it into words. It may be things that I’m struggling with, and that I feel like I’m alone in having to deal with those struggles. Or that I have to live in this state of being overwhelmed and that no one understands what I’m going through. Can you relate?

But in that feeling, I find hope in today’s verse. Jesus tells us to take heart and to have peace because He has overcome the world. Even though we are going to face many struggles and trials, we are never alone. Jesus will never abandon us when we are overwhelmed and struggling. Hebrews 4:15-16 says: “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”

The peace that God gives us can never truly be understood until it is experienced. We can rest easy in that peace because Jesus defeated death and overcame the world. Our struggles are nothing in comparison to what He did. If we continue to invite Him into our moments of feeling overwhelmed, He will meet us there with a peace that surpasses all understanding. We can boldly come to the throne of God and ask Him to be with us when we need it the most.

Then, we need to always remember that He is always faithful, and He will always be there for us in those overwhelming moments. He will never abandon us and let us face those challenges alone.

Action Step:

Prayer: God, I am so grateful and thankful that through all of my struggles that You will never leave me. I know that there will be sorrow, trials and pain, but I also know that You are a good God and You are always there to walk through those times with me. Help me to remember that truth when I am overwhelmed and feeling like I am unable to get through the tough times. Help me to remember that You are faithful. I love You, Lord. Amen.
