Tricky Questions Require God’s Wisdom
“When the hard to answer questions come, God will give us understanding and wisdom if we search for it.”
"My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would silver, seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:1-6 NLT
Over the life of one mom, at least 4,328,916 questions are asked (based on a study done on my life). "I don't know" has become a quick and easy response for me, because with four kids I've been in the "why" phase for some time.
But there are questions that require much more than a quick response. What do we say when hard to answer questions come? How do we respond in a way that points our children to the heart of God?
Proverbs 2 gives us a little bit of a starting point for being ready to answer questions.
Have you ever searched for the "perfect" baby item? Maybe a car seat or stroller? Moms will scour the internet, magazines, ask friends, and read reviews searching for the best product. Or maybe it wasn't a baby product, but a house or a car, or some other product valuable to you.
That's how Proverbs tells us to search for wisdom, insight, and understanding from God. As if they were like silver or hidden treasures.
When the hard to answer questions come, God will give us understanding and wisdom if we search for it.
Jesus answered a lot of hard questions. Some meant with ill intent and some meant for greater understanding. But in every conversation, Jesus remained connected to His Father. He answered questions with wisdom, with thought-provoking gentleness. And most of the time the answer came in the form of a conversation with the asker. Jesus put a lot of thought and heart into His answers.
When tricky questions inevitably get asked, a mom's best tool is God's wisdom. Lean into wisdom and knowledge from God, mom.
