Solid Foundation

“He will guide us through the storm, fill us with a supernatural peace that only He can provide, and He will bring us through to the other side.”

“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. When the flood came, the river crashed against that house and couldn’t shake it, because it was well built.” Luke 6:48 CSB

In today’s passage, Jesus describes a man who goes to Him, hears His words, and acts on them. (Luke 6:47 CSB). A man who heard the words of Jesus, and applied them to his life. Jesus often used metaphorical language to help people understand His teachings, and this passage is no different. It’s easy for us to understand that the strength of something is determined by the quality of its parts, and that your foundation should be on the most solid thing you can find. Building our foundation on the steadfast rock that is Jesus, is the only thing that can carry us through stormy times.

Jesus doesn’t say that the man who builds his house on the rock will never weather a storm.  His promise is that we won’t have to weather the storm alone, because He will be beside us.   I’m so grateful for this promise of faithfulness because we all have seen the destructive storms of life. Many of us have experienced them firsthand. We have felt the winds rise, watched the dark clouds roll in, heard the thunder move closer and closer, and have seen the lightning streak across the black sky.

Without Jesus, those scary storms of life can leave you shaken, in a path of destruction.

With Jesus, we know that when everything around us is shaking, and life’s storms crash against us, He is there.

He will guide us through the storm, fill us with a supernatural peace that only He can provide, and He will bring us through to the other side.

Strengthen your foundation, dig down deep, to find the solid rock that is Jesus. Build your life there. Because the storms of life will come, and when they do, it's only our loving, faithful Father, who is strong enough to face whatever comes against us.

Action Steps:

  • What can you do today to strengthen your foundation? It can be as simple as opening your Bible and reading, worshiping God, or spending time in prayer.

  • Maybe you're in a storm right now. Call out for Him, He is already there, ready to withstand this storm with you.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for being my solid rock, my shelter, my safe place. I want You, and only You, as the foundation of my life. Pour into me, strengthen my weakest points, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit in my times of need. Thank You for loving me, and for always being faithful to Your promises. I praise You for all that You are, Lord, and pray all this in Your Holy name.  Amen.
