Room for Jesus

“Let’s not let busyness, whether it’s Christmastime or not, take up room in our hearts that’s meant for Jesus.”

“And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” Luke 2:7
When we hear this story, knowing how it ends, we can’t even fathom someone turning away the woman who was carrying the Son of God, just because there was no room for her. Sure, they didn’t know who she was, but couldn’t God have just nudged them to make space? Especially as moms, we wonder why anyone would not just make a comfortable spot for a pregnant lady to give birth.
But we do this every day. We choose whether or not there’s room for Jesus in our hearts.
If we think of our hearts like inns, let’s consider what we’re filling them with. We put so much into our hearts, some good and some bad, but even the good things can distract us and take up room that should be for Jesus. Sometimes we just get so busy living our lives that we forget to even try to make room for Jesus.
Mom friend, as we fast approach the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus, make sure your heart is ready to receive Him. Get rid of anything taking up extra space… anything that pulls your attention away from Jesus, and make the choice to allow Him room in your inn (heart).
Let’s not let busyness, whether it’s Christmastime or not, take up room in our hearts that’s meant for Jesus.
Choose Him. Make room for Jesus.
Action Steps:
Is your inn prepared for Jesus? Is there open room for Him in your heart? I challenge you, over the next two days (which I know are going to be super busy), to slow down. Rest. Refocus on Jesus. Actively seek Him through prayer, read your Bible (the Psalms are great) and really choose Jesus to fill all the rooms in your heart.
And because you’re probably already singing it in your head, listen to “Make Room”, I like the Meredith Andrews version.
