Hallelujah, He Is Here!

Updated: Jan 7, 2025

“‘...Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promise to her!’ And Mary sang: ‘My soul glorifies the lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.’” Luke 1:45-47

Christmas. The day that all of creation, received its Rescuer.

Holy cow, that makes my heart so full that I can’t help but tear up with gratefulness. Not just gratefulness, but relief. Where would we be, momma, without the coming of our Rescuer?

But our scripture today points us back to a conversation, just months before that holy day. Back to two mommas who had already been entrusted with the knowledge the world was yet to learn.

Unto us a babe would be born. Unto us a son would be given.

And the knowledge of so beautiful a promise caused spontaneous song and blessings to bubble out of these two women. The magnitude of what was about to happen would be world-changing. Eternity-changing. But I can’t help but think about how heart-changing this would have been for Elizabeth and Mary.

Elizabeth was a mom who had been counted out by age and ability. Scripture tells us her time was up, and she had felt she had fallen short of her God-given purpose in mothering. I didn’t have to live with her to imagine she dealt with her share of scorn and gossip in circles that should have supported her. Yet the Lord had planned otherwise. She chose to marvel that despite all the world had dished out, she had been chosen for a miracle. And was overjoyed to be encouraging another scandalized momma (crazily enough, her own relative) in knowing the One who had called them, the One who deemed them worthy, the One at work for His purpose… He was the One who was bringing His salvation to completion… through them.

And despite the critique, the heckling, the opinions, the stereotypes, they believed. They believed what God said to them over the noise of the world, and they chose to accept His peace and to trust His voice. And in turn, scripture tells us, “they were supremely blessed” and “their spirits were full of joy.”

We may not ever carry deity in our wombs, but we are indwelled by the spirit of Christ, deemed worthy by the One who called us, because He came. Immanuel. God with us. Today, on Christmas, remember we can never be deemed obsolete, too scandalized, too aged, too cast-off, too young, too complicated, too human… to escape His eye, His love, His grace, His plan, His calling and His coming.

Rejoice, momma, for in Jesus, you are supremely blessed. Let it change your heart and be of great joy! Hallelujah, He is here.

Merry Christmas, moms!
