Glory to God, and Peace to Us

“It is a truth I will never fully fathom, but I will always fully embrace. His glory brings me peace.”

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” (Luke 2:14, ESV)

I’m sure you’re familiar with this verse. We hear it often this time of year, but it’s true throughout the year, too. The heavenly host sang it, and when we need it most, we can still proclaim it!

God loves us so much. It was His great love for us that compelled Him to send His son, Jesus, on a rescue mission to save us. And He did it all for His Glory and for our peace.

I love the song, “Lord, I Lift Your Name on High.” It’s an oldie, but goodie. Written in 1989 by Rick Found, the chorus boasts the same message sung by that heavenly host on that silent night.

You came from heaven to earth, to show the way

From the earth to the cross, my debt to pay

From the cross to the grave, from the grave to the sky

Lord I lift your name on high.

We lift His name on high to bring glory and honor to the only one who could do what He did so that we might have a relationship with Him and live abundantly here on earth and forever in heaven with Him.

It is a truth I will never fully fathom, but I will always fully embrace. His glory brings me peace.

His glory brings you peace, too. And I'm sure we all can use a little peace this time of year. Mama, don't forget the true reason for the season. When that is your focus, you will see your life transformed, and then you won’t be able to keep it to yourself, because the peace that will be evident will change those around you, too.

I say often, “Things are better caught than taught.” What you do and how you live will speak louder than the words you say or the advice you give. We even see evidence of this in the next six verses of this passage (Luke 2:15-20)

When God's glory changes us, the peace we experience will motivate us to go and experience even more of God’s glory in action. We will go without haste to see for ourselves and treasure each moment of His glory as we ponder them in our heart, and return to Him again and again to praise Him and give Him glory.

Action Step:

Prayer: Father, thank You for saving me and bringing peace to earth by sending Your son, Jesus. I am forever grateful. Help me proclaim Your glory continually and boldly, as the heavenly host of angels did. Father, let there be peace, let it start with me and my family. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
