“We are seen by the One who created us. The One with the power to speak this world into existence, looked at the world, and decided it needed you.”

“You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.” Psalm 139:16
I cannot begin to tell you how often this phrase comes out of my mouth:
“A simple thank you would work well!”
When I think about all the different jobs that people do, sometimes it feels like motherhood is one of the most thankless ones. Moms sacrifice and give all that they have, only to be met…with attitude. At times, it can feel like all we do is keep the family going, investing everything, with little to no return on that investment.
Yet when I look at it honestly, I don’t think it is done purposefully. Life gets busy for our families, and as humans, affected by sin, sometimes selfishness wins. But I often wonder if I am modeling this behavior? Do I thank my husband and my kids for the jobs that they do? Ultimately, we all have that deep desire to be recognized and seen.
But we can have hope and comfort, knowing that we are actually seen.
We are seen by the One who created us. The One with the power to speak this world into existence, looked at the world, and decided it needed you. He has your life here on earth for a purpose. He created you and knows each and every moment laid out in your life. If that isn’t being seen, I don’t know what is!
He knew that there would be days that all the tasks you completed would not be seen. That the dinner you worked so hard to make wouldn’t turn out, no one would eat it, and your family would eat cereal for dinner instead. He knew you would have times your kids would be ungrateful and not understand the sacrifices you are making. He knew all of that and still created you. He gave you your purpose in life because He knew you were the exact person your family needed.
So friend, when it feels like it is all you can do to have patience, remember that you were created for this. When it feels like everything you do is in vain and no one sees the sacrifices you are making, remember the One who saw you before you were born.
Remember the One who sees you now and can give you exactly what you need. Remember the One who will continue to see you and guide you through each moment and situation that comes. Remember that you are exactly where God designed you to be. Remember that He sees you…and loves you so incredibly much.
Action Steps:
Reflect on these truths - that You are seen by God, and He has created you for a purpose
Reflect on something a little tougher - are you modeling this behavior to your husband or kids?
Prayer: God, sometimes the days are so hard. It feels like I give and give, with no recognition. Help me, Lord, in those times come to You and know that I am seen. You love me so much, and I pray that I remember that. Help me to remember that You have designed me for this purpose, and I am exactly where I need to be. Give me your strength and peace that I need to continue in that purpose. I love you, Lord. Amen.
