Unseen

“If you know the feeling of being unseen, I challenge you to make sure another mom knows about the God who sees her.”

“Thereafter, Hagar used another name to refer to the Lord, who had spoken to her. She said, “You are the God who sees me.” She also said, ‘Have I truly seen the One who sees me?’” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭16‬:‭13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Were you the kid on the playground wandering aimlessly because everyone else has other friends, and you weren’t included? Or maybe your kid is going through this. Or if you’re lucky like me, you’ve experienced both. It’s such a yucky feeling to not be seen. When everyone else seems valuable, but you are easily tossed to the side or passed over. Ugh, just thinking of it brings me back to middle and high school field days.

Whatever school-age experiences you have, though, you most likely know the feeling of being unseen. When we become moms, everything changes. We aren’t the focus, the baby is (and rightfully so). But our friend groups may also change, even relationships with our closest friends. We don’t get out as much. We don’t breathe and rest as much. And a lot of what we do goes unseen.

But God sees us. And loves us.

If you know the feeling of being unseen, I challenge you to make sure another mom knows about the God who sees her. And how loved she is. Welcome her into your own friend group or community. Make sure she knows how welcome she is and how she belongs. Invite her in. You’ll change her world. Whether she has met Jesus, or not yet, she needs to know someone cares. And it can start with you.

Take a moment to pray:

Father, open our eyes to see those hurting around us. The ones who feel that they are in this alone, that they don’t belong anywhere or to anyone. That are unseen by many. Give us the privilege of seeing them and inviting them into community with other women and with You, Lord.  Break our hearts for these mommas so that we can’t ignore them and do nothing. Open our ears to hear your promptings and the gift of the Spirit to respond to You.
