No Longer Me, But Christ

“All motherhood has its challenges, and all seasons must be surrendered to Jesus so that it’s no longer us doing the mothering alone, but us AND Christ who lives in us.”

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20
Putting our faith in Jesus gives us a whole new version of ourselves. God so graciously molds us, refines us, and makes us a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). When we put our faith fully in Jesus, we no longer live for ourselves but live with Christ inside us.
But putting our faith in Jesus and allowing Him to refine us also calls us to fully surrender to His will, His ways, His thoughts. It’s in surrender that we live out our faith, and live the abundant life that Jesus Himself said we could have (John 10:10).
Newborn life got you so exhausted you’re putting random things in the fridge? Surrender it to God.
Are you up to your ears in chaos and messes during the “wonderful” twos, threes, fours? Surrender your mothering to God.
Maybe your older kids are becoming more independent, and you have to learn to let them make their own choices? Surrender.
I’ve learned through the years (and I’m only 12 years into motherhood) that it's all hard. The early years, the middle years, the late years. All motherhood has its challenges, and all seasons must be surrendered to Jesus so that it’s no longer us doing the mothering alone, but us AND Christ who lives in us.
I’m not saying motherhood will then become easy, but with Jesus guiding our steps, our mothering will become something new. We know His ways are higher, better, and more full of truth. Let’s put our faith in the Son of God, who loved us enough to die for us.
Let Christ live in you, mom friend.
Faith Follow-Through:
This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:
Monday:
What do you need to surrender in order to live the abundant life Jesus promised?
Tuesday:
Earlier this month, we looked at Proverbs 3:5-6. Read this verse again. Spend some time reflecting, maybe even journaling, about the stage of motherhood you’re in right now, with this verse in mind.
Wednesday:
In the MMF Online Community, we love WORSHIP WEDNESDAY. Find some time to worship today, in the car, while folding laundry, or have a dance party with the kids. Here’s a “Surrender” playlist to get you started.
Thursday:
Spend some time with God today, in whatever way you need. (Examples: quiet prayer time, sitting quietly just listening, worshiping, journaling) Pray over whatever is going on in your life in this moment. Pray for the future. Pray over whatever you might have had a revelation about/discovered/learned on Tuesday while you were reflecting.
