Motherhood Is My Ministry

“My children are my first disciples. Teaching them, guiding them, and being their example IS MY MINISTRY!!! And it is MORE than enough!”

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” -Proverbs 31:31

A few weeks ago I was struggling with the thought that I’m just not doing enough to grow the Kingdom of God… to “go out and make disciples”. My husband is a worship leader at our church, as well as moving toward becoming a deacon. I design the church newsletter and fill random places that need filled… but it just doesn’t feel like enough.

For so long I’ve felt called into ministry. As I cried out to God, I asked Him to move me into a ministry… or at least give me the grace and patience to wait for His timing. A little later I was scrolling through Facebook and happened to see an ad on my newsfeed for a company selling a sweatshirt. The sweatshirt said “Motherhood Is My Ministry”. I heard God say so clearly that He already has me in the most important place of ministry I will ever be. I am a homeschool momma to three beautiful children. They are my first disciples. Teaching them, guiding them, and being their example IS MY MINISTRY!!! And it is MORE than enough!

God is so good. The greatest. As He washed me clean with His truth and placed me on His rock… I felt a wave of peace. Refreshed and restored. The storms of life and lies from the enemy will come and try to knock us down; but God is our firm foundation. His purpose for our lives is great and good and we can trust Him!

Proverbs 1:9 tells us that our parents’ insight will bring success, adorning us with grace-filled thoughts and giving us reigns to guide our decisions. That is what we are giving our children! How powerful!

Our ministry is to draw close to Jesus and become more like Him - in turn, teaching our children to do the same. So let’s be present and be diligent with what God has given us. Give it your all and know that it IS enough! Lean on Jesus, pray for your children… show grace and receive grace. And know that God will bless you and your future generations!!!

Action Steps:

  • Take a moment to thank God for your children and for your ministry as a mom. Ask God to fill your heart with purpose and passion for motherhood… filling every place of desire to be doing more or serving more. Pray for your kids… a special blessing for each one, pouring forth your insight to bring them success and guide their decisions!
