I See You

“Mom guilt= God’s work.”

"He creates each of us by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does, the good work he has gotten ready for us to do, work we had better be doing.” Ephesians 2:10 MSG
I see you. The mom who is working full-time and doing ministry. Trying to spread yourself to be there for all the people in both areas.
I see you. The mom who has multiple kids in sports, driving to practice or games most days of the week & many of those nights until 9pm. Trying to shop for all the things needed for these sports, because feet and legs grow at lightning speeds, or barter with other mamas to try to save a couple dollars.
I see you. The mom with a mountain of laundry because you're never home to actually wash clothes, fold clothes, put away clothes.
Oh do I see you, mama, trying to plan the food, buy the food, execute the food while juggling dislikes/likes, food sensitivities or allergies, snacks, after-school snacks, healthy choices, treats, team meals.
Maybe you're the mom who homeschools and is desperately trying to figure things out while also worrying “are they getting enough? Doing enough? Social enough? Are they just educated enough?”
And there’s also the mama with kiddos in public school who is responding to emails about their kid, keeping track of progress/grades/homework, disciplining, asking questions about friend choices, giving advice about friendship, worrying about if she’s the mama that is standing up enough & if she’s standing down enough (because they have to learn to fly, right?).
Your mom guilt steps in.
I don’t want to rock you here but I have a little bit of Truth for you.
God is smack in the middle of mom guilt.
Maybe a perspective change; He uses it as a tool to help us serve our families. Let me explain: You’re juggling all of life’s things and then when a kid asks something of you and you feel you don’t have more to give, you reach out to God and ask Him, “What should I do? How should I handle this situation? What should I say? What does my kid need to hear?”
And this is what He wants. Relationship with us. Parenting with us. Growth with us. Guidance for us. He created each of us ‘...by Christ Jesus to join him in the work he does.’ He created you specifically, and quite beautifully might I add, to parent/join Him in the work He does.
Mom guilt=God’s work.
Action Step
Prayer: Father, teach us Your parenting ways. Help us to pause in reflection & prayer instead of forge forward when it comes to the busyness of life. Let us invite You first into situations instead of praying in the aftermath of decisions. Let the very beauty that we are your handiwork marinate in our hearts so we can live in such a way. And parent in such a way. Yes and Amen.
