Hark! The Herald Angels Sing
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!” Luke 2:14 ESV
Merry Christmas week, moms! Whether you’re rushing around in chaos, or living a slow paced holiday, I’m praying this verse over you and your family.
Today’s verse comes from Luke 2:8-20. After Jesus had been born, an angel appeared to some nearby shepherds, sharing the good news that their Savior had arrived. And then a whole host of angels appeared and sang, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
I think the song that the host of angels sings to the shepherds perfectly sums up Jesus. He came to glorify and personify God, bring us peace that we can experience here on earth, and give us right standing with God, making Him pleased with us.
I also think it’s important to note what happens next. In verse 16 it says, “And they went with haste…” and found Jesus. They heard the good news about their Savior, and went with haste to see Him and meet Him. I can only imagine how they worshiped Him.
This week as we celebrate the arrival of our Savior, let’s not forget to go to Him, to see Him, and to meet Him.

This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:
Monday:
Glory to God in the highest
Read: Psalm 145:1-5, and Romans 5:2
Reflect: Why does God deserve glory and praise? How did Jesus coming to earth glorify God?
Go to God: Pray Psalm 145 back to God, and thank Him for sending Jesus to us. Worship Jesus today, the way you might imagine the shepherds did.

Tuesday:
Peace on earth
Read: John 14:27, and Romans 5:1
Reflect: In what ways did Jesus bring peace on earth when He came down to dwell among us?
Go to God: Just before Jesus promises to leave the disciples (it applies to us, too!) with peace, He promises the Holy Spirit, a Helper, will be with them. Peace is a fruit of the Spirit. Go to Jesus today, asking Him to send His helper to you and bring you peace. Make your prayer specific to everything going on in your life.

Wednesday:
Those whom He is pleased
Read: John 10:16, Zephaniah 3:17, and Psalm 147:11
Who are Jesus’s other sheep? What does He mean by one flock, one shepherd? Who is God pleased with?
Go to God: Spend some extra time today, before your day gets too busy, just chatting with your Shepherd, who is pleased with you. Tell Him all the good and the bad going through your mind. Talk to Him like you would a friend.
