Guide Me, Lord

“What if it all was a little easier than what we make it to be? Can I let you in on a little secret friend? It is! It really is!!”

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” Psalm 119:105 NLT

What do I do about this going on with my child?

How do we navigate in this relationship with …?

I feel like life is just so overwhelming right now. Where do I go to get help?

My child is dealing with … how do I help them through?

We all have had these questions in our lifetime, more than once, and I’m sure many more on many different levels. We over think. We take on the responsibility of needing to figure it out for ourselves and lose sight of the One who said He will never leave us. God never intended for us to figure it all out on our own. He has designed us to trust Him, to rely on Him, to let Him guide us, to lead us in the direction or path that is best for us. But so many times we turn to Him as a last resort all while tiring ourselves out in the process.

Our verse this week says “Your word (the Bible, God’s breathed Words (2 Timothy 3:16)) is a lamp to guide (I think of camping with a super illuminating flashlight to help you along whatever path you’re taking) my feet and light for my path (God is the eternal light (1 John 1:5)).”

What if it all was a little easier than what we make it to be? Can I let you in on a little secret friend? It is! It really is!!

But how, you may ask?

First, getting into the Word daily. The more scripture you put into your mind and heart the more you are ready to face certain questions. As you read in your Bible you will see that many have gone through so many valleys and up so many mountains and they all cried out to God for help.

Abraham trusted God to provide when He told him to sacrifice the child God promised. And guess what!?! God did! At the last moment, God provided a ram caught in a bush for Abraham to use in exchange for his son!

Then there was the time when Moses was leading the Israelites out of Egypt and they were between the Egyptian army and the sea. God showed up and parted the Red Sea through the obedience of Moses.

Oh, how about when the disciples were on a boat in raging waters, with winds blowing more than they could handle, thinking this was the end? They saw a figure walking on the water and realized it was Jesus! Peter, in all of the chaos going on around him, asked Jesus if it really was Him to call him to come and walk on water too. Jesus did as he asked and Peter, for a moment, did the impossible! He trusted Jesus at His Word and walked on water! We all know what happened next. Peter took his focus off of Jesus and began to sink, but Jesus did not give up on him, or punish him for that moment of little faith. Jesus calmed the storm as they entered the boat.

Second, we apply what we have read in the Bible and pray those scriptures over our situations that we are facing. He says in Isaiah 55:11 “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me void (useless, without result), Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.” (AMP) We get His attention when we pray and speak scripture, His Words, over our situations.

Third, we can ask Him for wisdom in all areas where we need Him. James 1:5 says “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” And Proverbs 2:6 says “For the LORD grants wisdom! From his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” Don’t be afraid to ask Him, friend! He is waiting for you to ask!

This week lets ask our Heavenly Father for guidance, for wisdom, for peace, and for more of His Holy Spirit as He leads us through these paths daily.

Go to God: Father, we thank You for always being ready for us to ask You for help. Holy Spirit nudge us to seek God first in all things. Guide us as we navigate through motherhood and life. Give us Your words to speak into the lives of our loved ones. In Jesus name amen.

Faith Follow-Through:

This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:

Tuesday:

Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight some scriptures for you for whatever season you need guidance in.

Here's a few to start:

  • Proverbs 3

  • Isaiah 54:13 ESV

  • 1 Peter 5:7

Wednesday:

When I first read this week's verse (Psalm 119:105) I was reminded of a song from way back in the 80’s. It’s “Thy Word” by Amy Grant. Some may know it and others may not. But it’s funny, one of those core memory songs, that just come up! But for today, let’s listen and be encouraged by this song from Cody Carnes “Take You At Your  Word

Thursday:

As we are coming close to the end of the week, what are some ways that we are showing our children God‘s light? What are some areas where we need God‘s light to shine through a little bit more brightly?

Romans 5:3-5 NLT says “ We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.”

Let’s invite the Holy Spirit into the rest of our week to pour over us through our busy weekend.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for sending us Your Holy Spirit. Holy Spirit, we invite You into our homes, into our families, and into our lives, to lead, to guide, and to dwell. Grace us with wisdom and guidance. Be with us Lord in all our days. Amen.
