"We’re taught through the Word of God that our greatness is steeped in godliness. It’s tethered to who Jesus is and who He has called us to be."

“But godliness with contentment is great gain..” 1 Timothy 6:6 (NIV)
When you think of gaining greatness what comes to mind? Personally, I’ve found in different seasons of my life that I’ve unknowingly picked up the view that “greatness” is only measured by my success. However, the Bible teaches us a different narrative. One far different than what we encounter daily in the world.
We’re taught through the Word of God that our greatness is steeped in godliness. It’s tethered to who Jesus is and who He has called us to be. We are reminded that to live is Christ and to die is gain. We’re promised that we will find true contentment when we have a heart swelled with love and desire for the Lord.
In 1 Timothy 6, Paul has listed detailed instructions about what living for Christ with a heart of contentment looks like. It reveals that those pursuing Christ will have peace with what they have and where God has placed them. They will trust the Lord's provision and timing. They will know the difference between truth and lie. Most importantly, they will know who is of God and who is not.
This changes everything for me when it comes to finding contentment in the season God has me in. As a mom of little ones, it can oftentimes feel like a thankless job, which can leave me wondering if I am really making an impact. How long will it take to see the fruit from this labor of love I do day in and day out?
But, God. He steps in and takes hold of my heart. He reminds me to be filled with contentment which overflows into joy. To trust where He has me and to remember this season of life holds so much importance. It holds us wrapping our children in the truth of the gospel, the love of Jesus, and the reminder that their “great gains” are found in Christ alone.
Action Steps:
How do you measure greatness? Is it steeped in godliness or worldliness?
How have you measured your season of motherhood? By milestones and charts or by the way your children love, obey, and serve in their little capacity?
Wherever you find yourself, rest in the truth that God wants your gains, greatness, and contentment to be found solely in Him. When you do this, you’ll find your children walking in this truth too.
