How Full Are Your Barns?

"Storing up wealth on this earth cannot satisfy you the way knowing you get to spend eternity with God satisfies you."

“Beware! Guard against every kind of greed! Life is not measured by how much you own.” Luke 12:15 NLT

Hi, my name is Cathrine and I love stuff. I like pretty cups, and cute shoes and new shades of nail polish. I like cozy blankets and comfy sweaters and cute journals. Candles, socks, books that I won’t actually read, and don’t even get me started on baby stuff. The more of those things that I have, the happier I’ll be.

When my house is pretty and I have the trendiest clothes and I spend a ridiculous amount of money to make my hair look good, I’ll be happy. I know this is true because I saw all the happy, pretty, perfect people on social media. Right?

WRONG.

Life is not measured by how much you own. Jesus said that himself. Life is not about things. If you go on to read the parable of the rich man you’ll see that greed only brings death. Things will not bring happiness. You’ll never be content by getting more stuff. Never. Only one thing can bring true contentment and that is a relationship with God. Storing up wealth on this earth cannot satisfy you the way knowing you get to spend eternity with God satisfies you.

Moms, guard your heart against greed of all kinds. Do you collect stuff? Do you want the best, the trendiest, the most Insta-worthy house? Do you store up wealth for “security”? When you’re gone from this earth, what will those things matter?

Spend your energy focused on your relationship with God. Invest in the security of the kingdom of heaven. Pour that energy (what little you have of it) into your children’s relationships with God. That, truly, is the wealth that deserves your attention.

Action Steps:

  • Read Luke 12:16-21. Reflect on that story and ask yourself what you’re “storing up”.

  • Write down a few ways you can invest in the kingdom of God. In the next few days, spend time praying about it and then doing those things
