God Knew

“God knew. God knows. God will always know.”

ree

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)

My son is only seven. Yet sometimes the way that he speaks and sees things from a spiritual perspective catches me off guard, coming at a moment when I need to hear what he has to say.

We hear, and sometimes say, something like, “It is a shame that our kids are growing up in the world we live in today.” I’ve been guilty of thinking it myself. Yet, this is one of the most untrue statements, and here is why. God created our kids for this time. There was one day when I was talking with my son about how hard life can be sometimes, and I told him I was sorry that he has to deal with some of this stuff in his life. His response to me? “Mommy - God knew that the world needed me at this time.” Talk about a gut check!

But truly, there is so much truth in that. God knew. God knows. God will always know.

He has a plan, not only for us, but for our kids. God knew that our world, this world during this time, needed our kids. For a reason. We think that as moms we know what is best for our kids. While in a sense, that is true, there is someone else who truly created our children. He knew our children before we did. He called them His Workmanship. Who are we to question the calling and timing that God has placed in our children’s lives?

As we prepare to get back into the swing of things with school, always remember: your child was made for this time. God knew the world needed your child at this exact moment. God knew. Trust Him. He is good and He is faithful.

Faith Follow-Through:

This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:

Monday:

  •  Let this verse sink in. God knows. And He is in control. Let that truth inspire your mothering.

Tuesday:

  • Spend some time in reflection and prayer on this truth: your child is God’s workmanship and was created for a purpose, for this exact moment in time. How does this change things for you? Does this release any fears/anxieties/worries? How does this change how you feel about the next chapter of your child’s life, whether it’s school or something else? Talk to God about it.

Wednesday:

  • Be reminded of how good God has been in your life. Reflect on His faithfulness, and how He has provided for you and your children. Listen to the song “Witnessed It” by Passion

Thursday:

  •  Pray over your kid(s) (and honestly all kids) and the upcoming school year. Pray for

    • God’s presence

    • Protection, physically, emotionally, and spiritually

    • Your child’s friends

    • The staff of your child’s school - the teachers, principal, and everyone your child will come into contact with

    • Your child’s growth in school, at home, and in their faith
