Foundation Work

“Those repetitive moments, the mundane days…momma, they are so important. They are foundation work.”

Dedicate your children to God and point them in the way that they should go, and the values they’ve learned for you will be with them for life.” Proverbs 22:6 TPT

Good gravy, am I leaning in to this promise in this season. All of a sudden, our home has a senior in high school and I have no idea how we got here. The days are long, but sister, those years were fast. Now more than ever we are asking Jesus for wisdom in almost every exchange with our teens as we help them navigate next steps for the lives God has for them. Honestly, apart from God’s wisdom, this season would be very unsettling for me as we navigate how to release our most precious souls into the world.

Gone are the days when they are content to sit under our wing, guarded by our mandates, safe in our presence. They’re ready to fly.

And this verse is a source of solace for our hearts, and honestly, for the hearts of our kids as well. You see, the day in and day out of raising and guiding and nurturing our babies has become a solid backbone for our children as they lean on the principles they've been taught, on the faithfulness of the God they’ve been introduced to in order to walk into the next season.

Those repetitive moments, the mundane days…momma, they are so important. They are foundation work. And with the help of God and the wisdom of His Spirit, you are laying the narrow and good path before your kids that will see them safely Home. The years we’ve put in, on our knees, in the trenches, in the hard and the happy…we can be sure God was doing a good work that will carry our kids until He’s completed it.

Above all else, dedicate your children to God and point them in the way they should go. It’s never too late, and it’s of immeasurable value. I see you momma, and so does God. His ways are sure.

Take a moment to:

  • Say this prayer: Father, You are beautiful and sure. Your word is true, and Your foundation is solid. Help us to dedicate and lead our kids in Your way, trusting that Your promises never fail, that You are in control and that You will lead our kids safely home. For your glory, in Jesus’ beautiful name.
