Chosen In Love

"Regardless of our circumstances, we have been chosen by God, in love,

to live for Him."

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 (ESV)

In this verse we see God calling Jeremiah as a prophet to the nation of Israel. While his calling was a high one and specific to his life, we also see in the verse something important about how God knows everyone, including us.

Paul writes in Ephesians 1:3-6, (ESV) “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”

Here we read Paul rejoicing that God has chosen us to have a relationship with Himself through Christ. God has chosen us not based on anything we’ve done or anything we will do, but purely based on his own good pleasure. Paul simply cannot contain himself as he praises God for His power and outpouring of love on us. God’s power and love is about to overcome anything and everything getting in the way of our relationship with Him.

May we also rejoice in the truth that we are known by God- we were known by Him before we were born! We were chosen for any moment we may find ourselves in. It can be a beautiful moment where we are thankful and praising, or it may be a difficult moment in which we are crying out to the Lord. Regardless of our circumstances, we have been chosen by God, in love, to live for Him.
