“I’m beyond thankful that His word promises that He, Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen and support us.”

“Now the God of all grace who called you to His eternal glory in Christ Jesus will personally restore, establish, strengthen and support you after you have suffered a little.” CSB 1 Peter 5:10
Being a mama is not for the faint of heart. From kisses on boo-boos, to GI procedures, to heart surgeries, to all the unknown… the desire to trade places with my babies is there more often than not. I’ve lost track of the times I’ve prayed, even begged God, to take battles from my kids and let me walk it out in their place. And If I was a betting woman, I would say your mama heart knows exactly what I mean. From peers in school, to mental health struggles as young adults, the list can go on and on with what our children face day to day.
But as I read 1 Peter 5:10 I am reminded of so many truths. First off, God is the God of all grace. Not grace when we deserve it, not just grace to those who shouldn’t have to walk through battles in life (cough cough, our innocent babes)... but all grace, to all of His children. The grace that we can’t fully define. The grace that covers all heartaches and woes.
I’m also reminded of the spiritual perspective. God has called us to His eternal glory. Not the call to live out a perfect life with rainbows and sunshine. Not a call on our lives to be perfect and never face storms. But the call on our lives that what we go through is for His eternal glory.
I’m beyond thankful that His word promises that He, Jesus, will personally restore, establish, strengthen and support us. From beginning to end. From the starting of our sufferings, to the strengthening in the middle of our battles, Jesus Himself promises to be with us and our children.
Action steps:
Lead by example. Keep the eternal perspective in your eyes. Turn to God in front of your kids. We often try to keep it all together for our children, but maybe what they need most is to see their mom trust in God with all her battles, with no hesitation.
Pray with your children, in front of your children, and for your children. It doesn’t matter if they have lived 2 years, 12 years or 32 years of their life, and now you want to start pulling them aside to pray over them. Do it! Don’t hesitate any longer.
Invite God into your battles, into your kids' battles. Ask Him for His wisdom to help guide your children. Trust that He has such a good plan for all of His children.
Prayer: God, I pray for my children, over all the battles they’re facing. I ask that You restore, establish, strengthen and support my children when they’ve suffered. It is a privilege to be on the front line of their battles. Thank You for trusting me with those sweet children that You love so much. I give You all the glory, amen.
