All for the Lord

“He sees you momma, He sees your hard work, your quiet faith, your servitude, and your love for Him and others.”

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24 NLT

Let’s stop and take a moment to look back on a time in our lives that we felt undervalued, or unseen. This can happen at any given time in our lives. Maybe it’s at your job, your church, or even in your own family. Has this happened to you? It can be difficult to understand or see ourselves as important parts to the kingdom of God.

Have you ever heard of Phoebe? No, not Phoebe Buffet, the Phoebe who was entrusted to deliver Paul’s letter to the church in Rome. If you’re like me, I hadn’t ever heard of her. But I recently completed a Bible study about the women of the Bible and learned that, like us, she has been overlooked for centuries. She is only mentioned once in the Bible; Romans 16:1-2 says, “I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea. Welcome her in the Lord as one who is worthy of honor among God’s people. Help her in whatever she needs, for she has been helpful to many, and especially to me.”

Phoebe was a faithful servant of God, and she served her church and God without fanfare. Paul entrusted his ministry into her hands. She traveled by land and sea to do this task for God and Paul. And she only gets mentioned once! This task was very important to the early church and for us today. She truly worked for the Lord, rather than for recognition from people.

So when life makes you feel unappreciated, look to the scriptures to find your worth. We forget that in a world of instant fame and participation trophies, in God's kingdom the last are first and the first are last. Try to remember that the only one you need to please is Jesus. He sees you momma, He sees your hard work, your quiet faith, your servitude, and your love for Him and others.

So don’t give up, trust that your unseen work matters for now and eternity. He sees you, friend.

Action Steps:

  • Look into Phoebe and her story more, there are lots of great videos on YouTube that go more in depth on who she was. Mary Demuth’s is a good one to watch.

  • Listen to “The God Who Sees” by Doxa Church

  • Every time you’re feeling unseen or undervalued, remind yourself that YOU are a CHILD OF GOD.

Pray this with me: Dear Jesus, help me to see myself the way You see me. When I’m feeling hurt or broken, You will wrap me in Your loving arms. Send others into my life that will help me lift my eyes to You in all situations. Give me grace when I struggle to understand Your ways. And Jesus, continue to use me to strengthen Your kingdom. In Jesus’ Holy name, Amen.

April Ross, living to be seen by God, momma of 3
