A New Creation

“Everything I was striving for, the things I could see in my Jesus-following friends, came easier to me because He was there, renewing me.”

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
There was a time in my life that I fully believed that God was real, even knew that He should have authority over me, and yet I still didn’t know how to live that life or even want to. I spent my days doing whatever I wanted, feeling all the emotions and letting them rule me. I wasn't always kind, I didn’t care to being loving to those who I felt were unlovable.
But, I also didn’t have a relationship with God or know Him at all.
Eventually, I started going to church, realized what I was missing out on, and began my faith journey. I saw the way the other church members lived, and I wanted that. I wanted to live out the fruits of the spirit, I wanted to know God’s character and be familiar with the Bible. I wanted to join Bible studies and have godly friends. But for a long time, something still felt like it was missing. I came to realize that a relationship with God was the absolute center of everything else I was striving for.
I “knew” God, but I wasn’t submitting to His will or really allowing Him into my life. I still didn’t have a relationship with Him. Once I focused on my relationship with God, rather than all the other things, I started allowing Him to be the complete authority in my life. My relationship with God grew, and more and more I could feel His presence.
His presence made all the difference in my life. Everything I was striving for, the things I could see in my Jesus-following friends, came easier to me because He was there, renewing me. He made me a new creation, sending the Holy Spirit to fill me with all those fruits I wished I had more of. I became a completely new person, living for God, rather than living for me.
Mama friend, I want to encourage you today. Prioritize your relationship with God. Let Him be the authority in your life. Let Him make you a new creation.
Action Steps:
Reflect: How is your relationship with God? Is He in control of your life? Do you allow the Holy Spirit to guide you and renew you?
Check in with your kids! Ask them how their relationship with God is. Open up a conversation about how they can grow in their relationship with God.
Moms with little kids: A simple “God loves you so much” will go a long way in planting seeds for their relationship.

Prayer: I surrender to You, today. I want You to be the absolute authority in my life. Give me opportunities to submit to Your will, growing my relationship with You, leading me to be a new creation. Your presence, Your authority, makes all the difference in my life, and I want that. In Your name I pray, amen.
