A Mothers Love

“Your faithful mothering blesses the heart of the Father, even if it’s not your idea of perfection.”
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13 (ESV)
It was a few years into parenting, knee-deep in toddlers, that I started to feel like I was drowning. I say that now with a chuckle, but in the moment, I didn’t find it funny. Maybe there’s a momma that can relate to this. And if there is, you’re not crazy, and you’re not alone in your feelings. I let that feeling fester quietly because my mom friends were too busy to deal with my feelings, in the thick of toddlers themselves. I lacked community and felt alone. It quietly began to breed resentment, not of my babies, but of the season of life I was in.
The Lord taught me and worked on my heart through that time, if I’m honest, not in each moment, but on the other side looking back.
The truth is, motherhood is the ultimate way of laying down your life (desires, preferences, idealism) for another soul and pouring your best in to them day after day. I wish someone would have spoken the value of that truth on my days back then. I honestly wish I would have had the Motherhood Meets Faith mom community to unload the truth of my heart on and feel validated, encouraged and challenged. The sacrifice of mothering can feel lonely and heavy without God’s truth being spoken of it. It is a call to die to yourself for the lives of others, and it is valuable beyond measure.
Your faithful mothering is a love gift to your tiny humans.
Your faithful mothering is God’s plan of discipling other hearts, in action.
Your faithful mothering blesses the heart of the Father, even if it’s not your idea of perfection.
Your faithful mothering is the main way God is refining you in to who He wants you to be.
I needed someone to speak over my life, “Embrace this call. Stop resisting the call to die to yourself, because you will find the beauty in the lives you are growing.”
A mother's love is beautiful. Your sacrifice is a pleasing aroma to your Father. There is purpose in every day of your mothering, whether your babies are little or grown. There is no better opportunity than mothering, to lay down your life for another.
God is for you!
Action Steps:
Make an opportunity to pour your heart out to the Lord and receive His comfort and encouragement. Unloading your heart and feelings to your Father is cleansing for the soul.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are beautiful. Thank You for giving us the opportunity to be mothers and to follow You in the call to lay down our lives for another. Would You keep the lies of the enemy from gaining a foothold in our hearts and bring us a community who isn’t afraid to speak truth and encouragement over our souls? Would You give us joy in the hard and the beautiful as we follow in your footsteps? We ask it in Your faithful name, Jesus. Amen.
