“Everyone has been fed, bathed, loved, smooched, and put to bed. ‘God, thank You for being with me today…’”

“pray without ceasing,” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
I wake up to my 3-year-old coming in to my room, because he’s a VERY EARLY riser. “God, thank You for this day. I invite You into my day, into my life, because I know I won’t be able to do any of this without You.”
I’m making sure four littles, and me, are fed and dressed and ready to get out the door by 8:30, and it’s so hard. One kid is following me around the whole time, another kid can’t find the shirt she wants, another kid wants a second breakfast and another is whining because he doesn’t want to go to school. “Jesus, help me. Send Your Spirit to bring me peace, bring my brain clarity when things get overwhelming and confusing. Give me the strength to push through this day.”
I’m dropping big kids off at school. “Jesus, go with them. Fill them so full of Your Spirit that Your light just flows out of them. Protect their hearts and minds, and bring them home safely.”
I’m doing dishes, folding laundry, cleaning toys up off the floor. “Ok, Jesus, I need You to come sit with me. Can I just talk to You about my worries? About all the things I’m thinking about? About all the things I’m hoping for my kids and my marriage?”
I’m putting little ones down for a nap and finally have a moment to myself. “Jesus, as I’m going about my day, I realize how good You are to me. I don’t know if I’m doing the right things, but I know You’re in control, so I can’t be messing up too terribly. Search my heart, show me what needs to change, transform me so that each day I’m showing others a little more of Your character.”
I just picked up my big kids, and it's that chaotic time between school ending and dinner. “Jesus, if there’s ever a time I need You, it’s now. Send Your Spirit to remind me to be nice to my kids. Also, what’s for dinner?”
Everyone has been fed, bathed, loved, smooched, and put to bed. “God, thank You for being with me today. Every time You were there, my faith grew stronger. You, truly, deserve all the glory. I pray that my children felt Your love through me, and that they grew a little closer to You today. Give me one last boost of strength and energy, so I can have a little bit of time with my husband. Also, if you could just help everyone sleep through the night, that would be great. But if not, You’re still good.”
Amen.
