A Divine Ally

“Dear mom, the Creator of the universe sent His very Spirit to dwell in you as your guide, your comforter, your teacher, your strength.”

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 NLT

When I read this verse to write on it, my attention was snagged on the word “fellowship”. In the Greek, fellowship is koinōnia: an association of close mutual relationship and involvement with another person or group, formal or informal. It implies intimacy, singularity of purpose, trust, and harmony. It is an alliance.

As women, and especially as moms, we are under constant pressure to be everything for everyone. For our kids  we are cook, cleaner, counselor, life coach, tutor/teacher, and so much more. Add to this the expectations and demands of marriage, friendship, family, work, and culture, and it quickly becomes overwhelming. How are we supposed to handle and do well in everything?

The short answer is that we can't by our own strength. The great news is that we don't have to. The Holy Spirit is the Helper and Advocate whom Jesus promised to all His followers. In Him we have a friend and ally who is closer than our next breath, is infinitely wise and powerful, and who genuinely desires a close relationship with us.

Dear mom, the Creator of the universe sent His very Spirit to dwell in you as your guide, your comforter, your teacher, your strength. Whether you are weary and overwhelmed from life's demands, facing giants, or feeling stuck in the mundane, the Spirit is with you. If you need wisdom, strength, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faith, self-control, or all of the above and then some, the Spirit is able and willing to help you. At any and all stages of life, you can count on your divine ally to be all you need.

Action Steps:

  • Invite the Holy Spirit into every part of your day, no matter how big or small.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of His presence and to help you trust and rest in Him.
