“Out of His love for us, supernatural peace awaits to guard our hearts and minds. Out of your love for Him, will you come to Him?”

“Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 (NLT)
My four-year-old ran into my arms crying after being picked up from his classroom at church. I immediately knew something was wrong. After calming his heart, I asked him what happened. He said, “nothing, mommy”. As the day continued, he wasn’t himself.
I asked him later that evening what happened and added that no one was going to be mad at him. He started crying and said, “mommy, I colored on a girl’s coloring page. It was an accident. Do you think my teachers are mad at me? Do you think she’s mad, mommy?”. Oh, my sweet boy. In that moment, my mom heart ached, and I wanted nothing more than to guard his heart and mind from the pain, shame, and fear he was feeling. Why? Because I love him, deeply.
Well, mom friends, God loves you and me, so deeply. He wants to guard our hearts and minds and does so through His supernatural peace that exceeds anything we can understand. In other translations, it states, “and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding”. God’s peace is a far more powerful protector of hearts and minds than any human effort, including a mom’s effort.
But let’s not miss the first word of this verse – then. Then is a word that signifies a specific point, indicating what is next in sequence. Verse 6 states, “don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
I desperately wanted my son not to worry, but rather invite me into his pain, shame, and fear.
God wants you and me to do the same.
Out of His love for us, supernatural peace awaits to guard our hearts and minds.
Out of your love for Him, will you come to Him?
Action Steps:
How kind is God to give us His supernatural peace?! Spend time in prayer – asking God for His supernatural peace. Thank Him for all He has done and continues to do.
