Won't He Do It

“But as the Lord will do, He made a way where I saw no way.”

ree

“The Lord is my strength and song; He has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise Him-my father's God, and I will exalt Him!” Exodus 15:2 NLT

This scripture is part of a song of praise composed after God led the Israelites through the Red Sea. After 400 years of captivity, God had shown His power and set His people free from Egypt. However, they soon found themselves in the wilderness with a large untamed body of water-the representation of chaos-on one side and a whole army on the other. There was no way until God made a way.

While I've never been between a sea and an army, I have, as I presume we all have, been faced with situations that looked impossible and seemed to have no solution. This includes a time just over a year ago when finances were in a dire spot. My husband had been unemployed for some time, my paychecks were nowhere near sufficient to cover all the necessities, and we were at risk of losing our house. My feelings were along the lines of Exodus 14:11 in which the Israelites complained to Moses, “What, there weren't enough graves in Egypt so you brought us to the wilderness to die? What are you doing?” I was frustrated, ashamed, and scared, with no way out of the mess.

But as the Lord will do, He made a way where I saw no way. I got a new, better paying job, and transitional pay dates and amounts were enough to let me buy groceries. I was able to take out a loan to pay some bills, and things were more stable by the time the loan payments came due. Remarkable generosity kept us from losing our house and having electricity shut off, and allowed me to have the needed clothes for my new job. God came through.

So some months later when God called me to increase the amount I was giving to my church, I was not completely terrified. Notice I didn't say I had no fear; I was honestly still nervous. But I had God's recent, big faithfulness to look back on and give me confidence that He would take care of me here and now too. Worry didn't get a death grip on my life because my Abba had His hands on me. And looking back now, I have even more reason to praise my God and say, “Won't He do it!”

Go to God: God, You are so gracious to us and so faithful. You can do all things but fail. We have no evidence to suggest You'll let us down – and yet we still worry and fight for control! In a world that pushes worry, hurry, and control, will You quiet our hearts and minds and remind us to surrender to You? Will You forgive us for worrying and remind us of Your sovereignty and faithfulness? And when You come through for us, may we give You the praise and glory You deserve.

Faith Follow-Through:

This week, take some time to grow in motherhood and faith:

Monday:

  • What in your life is worrying you and/or stressing you out? What seems impossible, like it will never end? Give it to Yahweh and know you are speaking to the same God who split the sea for the Israelites and brought the dead back to life.

Tuesday:

  • Take some time to look back on God's faithfulness and remember what He has brought you through. Thank God for what He has done and tell someone about it. If you need a space to share, our private online community is filled with moms who love Jesus.

Wednesday:

  • The word used in the scripture for “victory” is yeshu’ah. The related verb yasha’ “means removing an object from a dangerous situation or the state of being delivered from distress.” The noun yeshu'ah refers to the salvation enacted by the verb, and Yeshua is Jesus in Hebrew. Don't miss this, moms: Jesus Himself is our victory and salvation. We will lose battles, but He has won the war, and He gets the final say.

  • Go to God: take some time today to lay all your distress and worry at the feet of Jesus. Lay it down and know that He goes before you in victory and salvation.

Thursday:

  • The Hebrew word for “exalt”/”exalted” is rum, which physically refers to raising an object to a higher elevation and “often means that a person or object has an elevated status for admirers or worshipers.” Mamas, we can't let our worries and fears have a higher position than God does. Our Abba is bigger than anything we could ever face, so let's keep Him in His rightful place, exalted over everything. Worry and fear are NOT worthy of our worship!
