Trusting God in the Mess

“He’s not expecting us to have our act together, He moves in the mess.”

“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,” Psalm 37:5-6 NIV
Before I became a mom, I had visions of peaceful mornings on the patio, reading my Bible,
sipping warm tea and listening to worship music. That all changed when my son was born.
Although it’s been nearly 30 years, I still remember the chaos. Reality looked a little like this:
the tea was cold, the Disney Kids Rock songs drown out the worship music, and my Bible is
buried in a laundry basket.
Sound familiar? Momming can turn our plans upside down—sometimes literally. Like when the bowl of cereal goes airborne and lands onto the freshly cleaned floor. In those moments, trusting God’s plan can feel as slippery as the wet floor.
Hang in there, mama. This Psalm reminds us that when we give it all to Him and trust Him, He will act. Not “might act”, not “consider acting”, but will act. The same God that parted the Red Sea and gave David the power to slay the giant can help you navigate missing shoes, the famous “I want to wear my Woody the Cowboy costume to daycare” tantrum, and all the other chaos. He will act on your behalf.
Commitment to Him doesn’t mean that your life will be neat and tidy and there won’t be crushed up Goldfish crackers on every piece of furniture you own. It means that in the midst of the chaos, we choose to trust that God is working. He’s not expecting us to have our act together, He moves in the mess. Even our craziest mom moments are being used by Him to shape us and our kiddos.
Take a moment and breathe, mama. He’s got you. Say a prayer over that pile of dirty dishes.
Laugh at the messes. God’s got you.
Action Steps:
Before your feet hit the floor, commit your day to God. Ask Him to strengthen you in the chaos.
Embrace the mess instead of stressing over every spill, tantrum and detour. Pause and remind yourself that He is present even in this moment.
Speak truth over your day. Repeat today’s verse when things start going haywire.
Before you go to bed, reflect on how God showed up for you today. Thank Him for the little victories!
Prayer: God, some days are just a mess around here. It’s often a battle just to get out the door in the morning. Help me to commit my way to You, knowing that You’re in control. Give me patience, laughter, and the wisdom to trust You in the big and small moments. Amen.
