“He wants to scoop us up from our self-pit with a big hug saturated in His outrageous grace and love.”

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 (NIV)
Recently, my four-year-old son got frustrated and within his limited capacity to process frustration, he broke out in anger. He yelled and screamed at me, his momma. Immediately, his face turned from anger to sadness. His eyes gripped by big tears. He ran into his closet to hide. His closet doors were open, allowing me a glimpse of his world.
Here’s what I observed:
He sat in the darkest part of his room.
He sat in the deepest corner of his closet.
He was covering himself as much as possible with his small hands.
In that moment, I wanted nothing more than to scoop him up out of his self-pit, hug him, and saturate him with grace and love, which is exactly what I did.
Here’s what I needed him to know:
He was forgiven, seen, and loved.
His mistakes do not withdraw my open arms.
He can always come to me with confidence.
Oh, how much more does God want us to know this?
When we’re in the deepest parts of our dark closet…
When we’re praying big prayers…
When we’re worshipping…
When we’re lost for words…
When we’ve just had enough because being a mom is hard…
Remember, He is sitting on His throne of grace with His arms open wide.
God doesn’t withdraw His arms. God wants us to know that we are forgiven, seen, and loved. He wants to scoop us up from our self-pit with a big hug saturated in His outrageous grace and love. This is the posture of our loving God, regardless of our mistakes.
So, moms, approach Him with confidence, knowing He is grace and love.

Listen to “O Come to the Altar” by Elevation Worship
Are you confident when approaching God? If not, what’s hindering your confidence?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your endless grace and outrageous love. We don’t deserve it, but You constantly pour it out. Strengthen our confidence in approaching You. Help us remember that Your throne is the throne of grace. Thank You for helping us and loving us. In Your mighty name, Amen.
