“Jesus truly is our Prince of Peace.”

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3 (ESV)
Our peace is found in the person of Christ. This peace does not mean our troubles go away, but rather a peace that guards our hearts in the middle of trouble (Philippians 4:6-7). Jesus truly is our Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
What does it mean or look like for us to have our mind stayed, or fixed, on Jesus?
Our minds naturally wander constantly, sometimes in ways that feel out of our control. This can cause us to come to the conclusion that it may actually be impossible to have a mind that is fixed on God. However, we forget we have the Holy Spirit himself dwelling within us to empower us to keep our thoughts on God. Just as with any other habit, we can train ourselves and our thoughts to focus on what is most important. When starting a training program we tend to think we have to do a complete 180 degree turn, but instead we should take on our training program one step at a time (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Fixing our mind on Jesus can also be seen as a process of sanctification, which means to become more Christlike. This process is progressive, not total or complete in one instant and will probably take longer than we want it to. Still, we can take comfort knowing we are becoming more and more like Jesus.
When we keep our minds stayed on Jesus and allow Him to work in our minds and hearts, we have peace through our troubles.
Action Step:
When you catch your mind wandering, try and center yourself back on God. Focus on each person of the Trinity- God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. You can even research the practice of breath prayers.
Prayer: God I thank You for keeping me in perfect peace. I trust in You, knowing that you have my life in your hands. I pray that my mind stays focused on You and leads to me becoming more Christlike. In Your mighty name I pray, amen.
