The Heavy Cream

“The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow, but the things we can’t see will last forever.”

“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” 2 Corinthians 4:17-18 NLT

Do you have days where you just feel overwhelmed by life and something as simple as forgetting heavy cream at the store can set you into a frenzy?

Well, my friend, you are so not alone. That was my reality this week! I’ve had a lot on my plate lately and all I wanted was to make a great breakfast for my women’s group and for my husband. I was tired and beaten down, but I was determined to make those casseroles! Yes, that’s right, two breakfast casseroles because I knew there would be no leftovers from the group to share with my husband.

It was 10pm, and we had just gotten home from our church small group followed by grocery shopping. As I read the recipe I realized I needed heavy cream, but had none. No one wanted to go back out. I got mildly frustrated and decided it would be a great time to put together a couch that we had just bought. Spoiler alert, it didn’t go well and I had to just go to bed with nothing accomplished.

I knew the Holy Spirit was telling me in that moment of frustration to just go to bed, and come back tomorrow with rest and clarity. Because honestly, God and I both knew I was going to take my frustrations out on my husband. My husband was trying to help but couldn’t do much since he recently had surgery, and we were both getting to our breaking points.

I got up the next morning and knocked out all the things that I needed to do including getting the couch all put together (a little easier when you’re not hungry or tired).

Lately, I’ve had days where I just want to lay in bed and do nothing because it seems as though everything around me is falling apart. But God renews me and restores me. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow, but the things we can’t see will last forever. God does that for us. He’s with us in the hard seasons and gives us hope for eternal life with Him.  Just know momma, you’re not alone in these seasons of life!

Action Steps:

  • Get coffee or lunch with a friend and talk about life struggles/ask for prayer

  • Ask mom friends how you can be praying for them
