Divine Refuge

“No matter what happens here on earth, your soul and eternity are ultimately safe. You can take rest in your Divine Refuge.”

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when the earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” Psalm 46:1-2 NLT

A refuge is defined as a shelter and protection. It is a safe place to go when external threats are present. And while we may not face literal earthquakes or see physical mountains fall into the sea, storms of life happen, and we will assuredly need a shelter from them.

Your earthquake could be a fear you have for your spouse, your kids, or yourself. It could be a conflict/relational tension, financial strain, mental health issue, an uncertainty or season of uncertainty. God could be calling you to something scary.

Or maybe your mountains have already crumbled: the dreaded health report came, unemployment happened, divorce entered the picture. It's possible tragedy has struck, and you are scared and hurting.

Mama, if that's you, hear me when I say your feelings are valid. Fear is a normal, natural part of life. Your fears are real; the good news is that God is also real. The God who is always ready to come to your aid is the same God who has overcome this world. He is bigger and more powerful than anything you will ever face. No matter what happens here on earth, your soul and eternity are ultimately safe. You can take rest in your Divine Refuge.

Action Steps:

  • Find scriptures that relate to fear, then pray and speak them over yourself.

  • Listen to “P E A C E” by Hillsong Young and Free

Prayer: God, sometimes life is scary, and it feels like everything is spiraling out of control. When I'm afraid, will You remind me that You are my safety and that You're sovereign? I want to rest in Your shadow instead of worrying and being consumed by fear. Please help me keep my eyes in You. Thank You for always being my refuge and stronghold. Amen.
