Thankful for It All

“We can get so caught up in everyday tasks that we fail to see blessings. We miss having a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving.”

“Then I will praise God’s name with singing, and I will honor Him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30 (NLT)

Have you seen those signs that say things like, “having laundry to do means you have clothes to wear and a full house.”, or “having dishes in the sink means you have food to eat.”? While those are completely true, sometimes we don’t see it that way. I know I don’t! It is really hard in some moments to feel that all those things are blessings, but they are. We can get so caught up in everyday tasks that we fail to see blessings. We miss having a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving.

Today’s scripture says that we honor God with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving, according to my NLT Study Bible, is “a prayer expressing gratitude; a public acknowledgement or celebration of God’s goodness.” Expressing gratitude means “to be thankful…conscious of the benefit received; expressive of thanks.” As I read through that, I reflect on how thankful and grateful I truly am in life. I want my kids to have a heart of gratitude in life, but how am I portraying that? Are they seeing it modeled? Or am I missing the blessings? Each and every day is a gift to be thankful for. Every day you wake up again, it is because God has a plan and a purpose for you, and He isn’t done with that yet! So be thankful for that!

Friend, I pray that you can see the good and the blessings in your life. It can be hard to see the good things and so easy to see the bad. Take time to sit and reflect on your blessings. Sit in that posture of gratitude and thankfulness. God’s will and desire for us is to be grateful and thankful because we do not deserve any of what we have been given. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT) says “Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.”

Again…is it easy? Absolutely not. Is it worth it? 100% yes! Each and every day, try to see the blessings - even in the hardest moments. Try to be thankful for it all.

Action Step:

  • As you take time to sit and reflect on your blessings - write them down! When we get into our everyday lives, it can get harder and harder to remember those blessings. Writing them down helps you to have that gentle reminder throughout your day of how truly blessed our lives are thanks to God.

Prayer: Lord, thank You. Thank You so much for all that You have blessed me with. I don’t show my gratitude well, so I pray that I do better. Help me to see all that You have given me and blessed me with. Help me to never lose sight of that. In the hard moments, I pray that You bring those blessings to the forefront of my mind so that I don’t miss out on even more things to be thankful for. I am so thankful and grateful that You thought of me. I love You, Lord. Amen.
