Sticky Floors and Enduring Love

“God’s love isn’t performance-based, mess-sensitive, or dependent on how many goldfish crackers are crushed into your minivan seats. It’s steady.”

"Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever." Psalm 118:1 (NIV)

Let’s be honest — some days feel like a marathon of messes, moods, and microwave dinners.

You step on a LEGO at 6:30 AM, find a missing shoe in the freezer, and wonder if “mom brain” is a diagnosable condition. On days like that, “giving thanks” might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But Psalm 118:1 gently (or maybe loudly, depending on how many kids are screaming) reminds us: God is good. Not just when everyone eats their vegetables, but also when the toddler uses your eyeliner for wall art. His love endures forever — even when your patience doesn’t make it past 9 AM.

God’s love isn’t performance-based, mess-sensitive, or dependent on how many goldfish crackers are crushed into your minivan seats. It’s steady. It’s unshakable. It’s what carries us through the sleepless nights and the “I don’t like you anymore, Mommy” moments.

Let’s take a breath today and remember: His goodness isn’t tied to our performance. His love doesn’t clock out. And that’s something worth giving thanks for, even with a sink full of dishes.

You may feel like a hot mess, but to your kids, and your Heavenly Father, you are a masterpiece. And His love? It’ll outlast the crayon scribbles on your wall and the teen years combined.

Action Steps (Because moms love a checklist):

  • Gratitude Grab: Write down three things you’re thankful for today — even if one of them is dry shampoo.

  • Love Note to Yourself: Tape Psalm 118:1 to your fridge, mirror, or inside your snack stash as a reminder that His love is forever — unlike your secret chocolate stash.

  • Mini Worship Moment: Turn on a worship song you love while folding laundry (or pretending to)

  • Grace First: Offer yourself the same grace today that you give your kids — especially when things get messy.

  • Celebrate a Win: Did everyone survive the day? Did someone smile? Did you get 3 minutes of silence in the bathroom? That’s a win. Celebrate it.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your never-ending love and goodness. When I’m exhausted, overwhelmed, or feeling like I’ve lost today’s “Mom of the Year” award, remind me that Your love still stands strong. Help me find gratitude in the middle of chaos, and joy in the little moments — like in warm coffee and toddler giggles. Amen.
