“We have to allow Him to be our Advocate.”

“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.” John 14:15-17 (NLT)
The Holy Spirit can sometimes be a tough thing to understand and comprehend. Yet the Holy Spirit is crucial in our everyday life. The Holy Spirit is the actual presence of God living within us, helping us navigate this crazy thing called life and motherhood. I think that is amazing! I don’t know about you, but lately, I need all the help I can get.
Motherhood is tough to begin with, but if we are not diving into His Word and allowing the Holy Spirit to speak to us and work within us, then we will, for sure, feel lost. I can’t begin to tell you how many times a situation has come up with my kids and I feel lost. I feel like I cannot get a grasp on what is happening in order to gain some sort of traction on the slippery slope. Notice a trend there? I kept saying “I”. That is when I will not succeed - when I will struggle. When I am trying to do it all on my own and not with the Spirit, who says He will never leave me. The Spirit who lives within me and will reveal Himself to me through all those tough times. The One who will guide me through the highest and the lowest times of motherhood.
In the Bible, the word “advocate” means comforter. Someone who provides support and help to others in the face of adversity. God is our Advocate. He has sent the Holy Spirit to be that advocate within us. To support and help us through the tough times. To comfort us when adversity comes. We have to allow Him to work. We have to allow Him to be our Advocate.
Action Step:
Listen to the song “Rest on Us” by Maverick City Music, UPPERROOM. Allow His spirit to come and rest on you. To fill you.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You that You have given me the Holy Spirit. Thank You for being my Advocate and filling me with Your Spirit. Things in this life are hard; but I am thankful that You are with me, leading me and guiding me. I love You, Lord. Amen.
