Oh Come, Let Us Worship

“Adoration for the One who created us opens our hearts to receive His grace, love, and guidance.”

“Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker!” Psalm 95:6 ESV

Engaging in praise and worship consistently is one of the best ways to grow spiritually and to grow closer to God. It’s a time to shift our focus from all the mom things, the worries and to-do lists, to the goodness of God and everything He has done for us. Adoration for the One who created us opens our hearts to receive His grace, love, and guidance.

“Worship Wednesdays”, a chance to share our most listened to worship songs, are a favorite of the Private MMF Online Community that I’m part of. My friends are constantly sharing worship songs they love. My church does praise and worship before and after Sunday’s message, because they recognize the importance of it. I have ample opportunities to partake in worshiping God.

But I have a confession to make. I often feel too busy to stop and listen to a song. I have to get kids to school, fill up a sippy cup, break up a squabble… Even on Sundays, I volunteer on a serving team and miss worship time.

Even as I write this, I recognize that I’m missing something in my walk with God when I don’t prioritize praise and worship. Sure, I read the Bible, spend lots of time in prayer, and make sure to get in His presence, but worshiping God is time when the focus is off of me, and fully on God.

It kind of reminds me of the story of Mary and Martha. Jesus visited their house, and as moms know, when we have visitors there’s lots to do, but the visitor was Jesus - I can only imagine the to-do list. It says in Luke 10:39 that Mary sat at the feet of Jesus. She recognized what was important and put the to-list aside. She stopped serving others to worship Jesus. In verse 40, the ESV uses the phrase “distracted with much serving” to describe Martha. Moms, I’ve heard this story many times, but reading it with the lens of being too distracted to worship hit me like a brick wall.

We are called to worship the Lord, no matter what else is going on around us. It’s an act of obedience, and nourishes our souls, drawing us closer to the heart of God. Let’s be moms that prioritize praise and worship.

Action Step:

  • Today is Worship Wednesday, so make it a priority. Put on your favorite worship playlist and let all your other tasks wait until later. Mom hack: turn the music up louder, and you can’t even hear the squabbles.
