"We are led by the same spirit that was present at the creation of this
world."

"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God." Romans 8:14 (NIV)
Led by the Spirit. Really think about those four words in this verse. We are led by the same spirit that was present at the creation of this world. The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. The same spirit that helped Joshua defeat army after army in the promised land. What a privilege. Through this inward presence we have a new relationship with God and we are
reminded of who we are, not in our flesh, but in spirit.
In chapter 7 you’ll hear Paul explaining how painfully aware he is of his sin and you’ll see how
he has such an inward struggle, which I think we can all relate to. Gosh, there are times where I fall into sin and afterwards just beat myself up about it.
Have you lost your temper with your kids? Well, I have, and man do I feel terrible afterwards.
Do you ever find yourself comparing yourself or your life to someone else’s? Maybe another
mom who appears to have it all together? I have.
Maybe you are struggling with gossiping or having a hard time forgiving someone.
Whatever it is, there are moments where we are painfully aware of our sin. The question is,
what do we do when this happens? Do we tear ourselves down and tell ourselves we aren’t
worthy enough to have a relationship with Jesus? That is where my mind sometimes goes when I am in the midst of sin. I’ve learned those thoughts and feelings are so far from the truth.
When we have life through the Spirit and when we are led by the Spirit we now have this
freedom from sin and death. (verse 2) We must claim this freedom that Christ freely gives us!
Like verse 14 says, we are his children. He loves us, forgives us, and wants us to be in a
relationship with Him. No matter how many times we may mess up, we must ask for
forgiveness and set our minds on what the Spirit desires. He gives us the power to live the
Christian life.
Action Steps:
Pray: God, thank you for welcoming me as Your child. I fully claim this relationship and ask you to send your Holy Spirit to lead me, and set my heart and mind on what You desire. Thank you for loving me and forgiving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
