His Masterpiece

"Like the words of a poem, our lives communicate the heart of Him, and communicate His deeper message of the truth, goodness, grace, and love."

"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time for us to do." Ephesians 2:10 CSB

In this verse, Paul uses the Greek word for workmanship, poiema. This is where we get the English word, poem. Poetry, to me, is set apart from all other forms of literature. It’s artistic, intentional, thought provoking, and powerful. Typically, poetry follows a particular structural form, with rhythmical elements, which work in synchrony to convey the message of the poet, in a way where it becomes more than a sequence of words. Instead, like the squares of a quilt, words are woven together to create a literary masterpiece that encompasses the heart of the poet.

Throughout scripture we see the writers, and Jesus himself, use poetic language to communicate a deeper message. In true Paul fashion, his choice of the word poiema, perfectly describes the truth of this passage.

Just as it was written in Psalm 139:16 “all of my days were written in your book and planned before a single one of them began” CSB. Our Father, with His divine artistry, purpose, form, rhythm, and beauty, has woven our days together. Like the words of a poem, our lives communicate the heart of Him, and communicate His deeper message of the truth, goodness, grace, and love. We are His masterpiece, and with Christ Jesus as the center of our lives, we glorify Him in all that we do.

Let’s pray together, friend.

Lord, you are so good. Without You, our days would just come and go, passing us by without meaning and truth. Thankfully, we know that the Lord, our God, has a greater purpose for us. Create a masterpiece in me. Help us Lord, to communicate Your message, and glorify You in all that we do.
