"The right of being a child of God is greater than any right I, you,
and our children will have and will ever have."

“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” John 1:12 (ESV)
I remember taking a certification exam and feeling the weight of the potential result,
knowing the result determined the course of my career. If the result displayed “fail”, it
meant I was not recognized nor authorized to practice as a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Have you ever waited on the results of a diploma, exam, job title to give you a certain right?
In John 1:12, it says “he gave the right”. In other versions of the bible, “he gave the right” is
replaced with “he gave power” or “he gave to them authority”. Jesus gave you and me the
right, the power, the authority to become children of Christ. We didn’t have to take an
exam nor wait for the result to become children of God. We simply had to accept Jesus
Christ as our Lord and Savior, to believe that God sent His only Son, Jesus, to take on our
sins and die for us so that we had an opportunity to be in relationship with God (read John
3:16).
The right of being a child of God is greater than any right I, you, and our children will have
and will ever have. Moms, let’s not forget whose we are.
Action Step:
You are a child of God. What does this mean to you? How does it shape your words, behaviors, and thoughts?
Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for giving me the right to be your child. I fully accept you as my Lord and Savior and want to be in relationship with You. Remind me what being a child of God means, and to live a life worthy of being Yours. Amen.
