“His grace flows freely, not when we’re perfect moms, but when we’re honest daughters.”

“But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.” 1 John 1:9 NLT
Motherhood is full of beautiful moments: first steps, sleepy cuddles, whispered prayers at bedtime. But it’s also full of messy moments: raised voices, quick tempers, impatience, and guilt. Sometimes, in the whirlwind of caring for everyone else, we forget that we need caring too, that our souls need tending just as much as our homes and families do.
1 John 1:9 is a quiet, powerful reminder that when we bring our mess to God, He doesn’t shame us, rather He cleanses us. When we confess our failures, whether it’s snapping in frustration at our child or neglecting time with God, He is faithful. He doesn’t hold grudges, and He doesn’t wait until we “have it all together” to forgive us. His grace flows freely, not when we’re perfect moms, but when we’re honest daughters.
One powerful story of forgiveness in the Bible is the story of the sinful woman who anointed Jesus’ feet (Luke 7:36–50). She came to Jesus, weeping, pouring expensive perfume on His feet and wiping them with her hair. The people around her saw only her past. But Jesus saw her repentance, and her love. He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven… Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” She didn’t try to hide her brokenness. She simply came. And in return, she received peace.
This story reminds us that God is not repelled by our mess. He draws near to the humble, the honest, the ones who come with empty hands and open hearts. As moms, we don’t need to pretend with God. We just need to come.
So today, dear mom, take a deep breath. Confess where you’ve fallen short, and then let it go. God is not keeping a tally. He is extending His hand, offering you a fresh start. Not just once, but every time you ask.
Action Steps:
Ask yourself -What is one area of your motherhood journey you need to bring to God today?
How does the story of the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet encourage you to come to Him with honesty and hope?
Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness and forgiveness. In the chaos of motherhood, I often fall short. Thank You for seeing me, loving me, and offering me grace. Help me to receive Your forgiveness fully, and to walk in the freedom You’ve given. Remind me daily that I am Your beloved, even in my mess. Amen.
