God's Truth

“We’re living in a world where our children are hearing “live your own truth” and for this reason I think it is more important than ever that we teach them GOD’s TRUTH.”

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, who the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” John 14:26

As a mom, I feel that I am constantly being asked questions.  Whether it be from the outside world about where I choose to send my kids to school, should I sign them up for rec sports, what vaccine schedule am I following, are they eating processed foods etc.  The questions don’t stop there, they then come from my family… “Can I have a sleepover?”, “What’s for supper?”, “Are my uniforms washed?”, “How do the children on the bottom of the world not fall off?”, “Did God make the stars?” The questions seriously NEVER end. At the end of the day, I can feel overwhelmed and exhausted!  I get a lot of silly questions but sometimes they are surprisingly deep! I must remind myself that we’re living in a world where our children are hearing “live your own truth” and for this reason I think it is more important than ever that we teach them GOD’s TRUTH.

This can feel like a lot of pressure to have these young minds looking to us for all the answers, but it is ok, we are not alone! We have a helper!

The Bible tells us that at the Last Supper Jesus spent his time reassuring his disciples that after he leaves, they will not be alone, but they will receive a Helper. Jesus says in John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever- the spirit of truth.”

In the same way Jesus comforts his disciples on his last night of freedom, so does the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of truth, give us comfort and knowledge while leading us into what is good, right, and true.

So, the next time your child asks one of those tough questions, don’t take the easy way out and brush it off or give a silly answer but turn to your Helper, the Holy Spirit, and give answers that are based in God’s truth.

Action Steps:

  • Read John 14:15-26 and John 16:12-15

  • Are you staying prepared for your child’s questions?
