Give Them To God

"God has a deep and personal knowledge of us and our children. He knows their paths and loves them more than we can even imagine."

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.” Psalm 139:13 NIV

As a mom I’m sure you have imagined or even dreamed what your kids would look like. You may have even planned on their personalities being something like yours. I know I did! ! Though they are perfect mixtures of their dad and myself, I’m so thankful God had different plans for my kids.

While we were imagining, God actually knew and was building that child exactly how He wanted them. God has a deep and personal knowledge of us and our children. He knows their paths and loves them more than we can even imagine.

As moms we know so much about our kids, their likes and dislikes, their medical information, their school work, etc… so it can be hard for us to fathom that God knows and loves them even more than us. I gave my children’s lives to God the moment they were born. It was simple then, but as they’ve grown it’s not so easy to let go, let them make mistakes, and then hopefully learn from those mistakes.

I love the phrase “let go and let God.” But it’s not as easy as it sounds, is it? We have to remember that God’s plans for our kids are so much better than we can imagine, so let them go to the One who created them. With God your children are in the best of hands, but He placed them with you for a reason. Psalms 40 says “Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.” Let’s do our best to remember and pass down these words to our children.

Action Steps:

  • Guide your children to turn to God in all areas of their lives and He will continue to bless them throughout their lives. Let go and let God.

  • If your kids are old enough, help them set spiritual goals for themselves, and then pray over and with your kids.

  • Give advice and help when needed to accomplish their goals.

  • Ask God to be in control of all situations in your child’s life.

  • Read all of Psalms 139, it’s a beautiful reminder of God's love for us from the very start.
