Feeling Distant and Distracted?

"We must consistently and always pursue our God and His strength, not

our own."

"Look to the Lord and his strength, seek His face always." Psalm 105:4

Confession! I haven’t been looking to the Lord like I should be. I read this verse and felt so

convicted. I wake up and pick up my phone. I make coffee, clean up some things around the

house. By the time I reach for my bible my kids are waking up and we’re starting our day. I

make breakfast, get them dressed, brush teeth, and rush out the door. As I take my daughter to school, I feel frustrated with myself because I didn’t look to the Lord and seek him first. I rely on my own strength rather than His.

Have you ever fallen into this trap of distraction?

As I’ve grown older I’ve learned the importance of consistency. I love to run. My entire life,

from five years of age through college I played soccer, which means a lot of running. Sometimes I wonder how many miles I’ve run over the last 28 years. There are little spurts of time now, after becoming a mom, where I find myself distracted and use the excuse of being too busy to run. During those periods of no running and inconsistency I am honestly not the most pleasant person to be around. I’m irritable, impatient, tired and all around not my happiest. But when I consistently run and make it a priority, wow! I feel amazing.

Being consistent in my relationship with the Lord is the exact same. I feel better spiritually and feel more connected to Jesus when I am in the word and communicating with him every day, truly seeking his face first, before anything else. I love better, I’m more patient, and I have the fire to be His disciple like I’m called to be. I feel this unexplainable strength in life that I know can only come from the Lord. The last word in this verse is ‘always.’ Let’s make it a goal of ours to be talking with the Lord morning, afternoon, and night. Through good and bad times let’s look to the Lord first. Not our phones, our family, or friends.

He tells us in Matthew 7:7, “Seek and you will find.” He is never the distant one. We must consistently and always pursue our God and His strength, not our own.

Action Steps:

  • Make it a point every day this week to reach for your bible first thing in the morning. Before your phone, before the dishes, before anything that may distract you. Go straight to the Lord and seek his face. There is no better way to start your day. Let Him set the tone for your day, not this world.
