Daily Bread

“When my cup is empty, You are there to replenish it and fill me back up… even to overflowing.”

And you will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart.” -Jeremiah 29:13 (ESV)

“A blanket wrapped around my feet and a coffee mug in my hand… I come to the feet of Jesus. I’m weary. Many nights of bad sleep (thanks to my sweet teething toddler). I am reminded that when my flesh is weak, my Spirit can be stronger. Holy Spirit, will You guide me today? Grow the fruit of the Spirit in me? Help me to depend on You in a new way today. Thank You that spending time in Your presence rejuvenates me and gives me purpose like nothing else. I know I can do all things through You, Jesus… and I cling to that today. I trust You. I breathe in Your name and surrender my tired soul. When my cup is empty, You are there to replenish it and fill me back up… even to overflowing. My daily bread. My one constant. So I take a breath and conquer my day… knowing I’m not alone. That knowing is all I need.”

This was my journal entry this morning. I’m sure that you can relate, because every momma struggles with exhaustion. No matter how tired we get, if we have that daily habit of coming to the feet of Jesus, that can change everything.

Daily devotional time creates an intimacy with God that will completely change your life. Intimacy with God is what we should all be striving towards. To become closer in communication with our Creator. But you can’t do that by just going to church once or twice a week… you need daily time. What if you only talked to your spouse once a week? How would your relationship be? God should be set higher than any other person in your life. He doesn’t just want a part of your heart; He wants ALL of it.

“And you will seek Me and find Me, when you seek Me with all your heart.” -Jeremiah 29:13

We are told that when we seek God, we will find Him. He’s so close… but as long as there are distractions you won’t be able to hear His voice. When you go into your secret place with Jesus, don’t forget to listen. Talk a little and then listen. Don’t be that annoying friend who never stops speaking to let you get a word in edgewise. God is speaking… you have to choose to listen.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” -Romans 12:2

When we spend time in prayer and meditating on scripture, we are renewing our minds. We are letting go of the world and thinking God thoughts and heavenly thoughts. Sanctification is the process of becoming holy and pure… and this happens during daily devotions.

So how can you make daily communication with God happen? This is easier for some and harder for others. Here’s some ideas to help.

Action Step:

  • Tape a scripture verse to your mirror or set your phone screen to that verse. Meditate on it. Ask the Holy Spirit how you can live out that scripture and put it into action.

  • Pray. Bless your food. Pray for safety when you go places. Pray for protection over your husband as he leaves for work. Pray for your coworkers or those you see at the grocery store. Communicate with God throughout your day. This can be done no matter how busy your schedule is and this is what He wants! He doesn’t want you to read your Bible and check it off your to-do list, not even understanding what you’re reading.

  • Ask God what He wants specifically from you and how you can make it happen… then listen for the Holy Spirit to guide you.
