“As parents, we learn very quickly that we cannot solve all our kids’ problems or change what is bothering them, no matter how much we may want to.”

“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 (ESV)
We all go through battles, even our kids. Their battles can look very different depending
on their age, stage of life, or personality. Although they may face some major hardships,
their battles may seem small to us. It is important to remember that whatever your child
is struggling with can feel huge to them.
For us, one of our son’s biggest struggles has been anxiety. He is sensitive in a beautiful and wonderful way, but it also leads him to fear many things, including the dark, crowds, and the unknown. John 16:30 says, “In this world you will have trouble.” As parents, we learn very
quickly that we cannot solve all of our kids’ problems or change what is bothering them,
no matter how much we may want to.
Fortunately for us, John 16:30 doesn’t stop there! It continues, “But take heart! I have overcome the world”.
As Christians, we are not hopeless in helping our kids overcome whatever comes their
way. We need to point them to Jesus. Psalm 121:2 says our help comes from the Lord.
Verse 2 also reminds us He made heaven and earth. I think when David wrote this
verse, he wanted to remind us of how magnificent our God is. He created the whole
world. He is powerful and mighty. The God who created the world loves us and promises
to come alongside us during our struggles.
Action Steps:
• Listen to your kiddo explain their situation. Even if it may not seem like a big deal,
whatever is bothering them is really important to them.
• Remind them that Jesus cares about what they care about! He is there to listen and
help. Our help comes from Jesus, and He has overcome the world!
• It's important to teach our kids that Jesus might not just take the problem away (or
maybe He will-Praise God!) He does, however, promise to walk through it with us.
He’ll never leave us to struggle alone. Have your child read Deuteronomy 31:6
• Lead by example. Model for your kids what it really looks like to trust God through
battles, big and small.
Prayer: God I come to You asking for guidance and wisdom as I help my children through the battles they face. Lead me in the direction that is best for them, all for your glory. In Your wonderful and magnificent name, amen.
