Are You Sure?

“And maybe I’m being dramatic, but some days are so hard that the task of motherhood feels like pleading with Pharaoh to let all of his slaves free.”

'Moses answered, “What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you’?”' Exodus 4:1

As I stared down at those two pink lines (Or maybe it was a blue plus sign, I don’t even remember), not for the first time, or the 2nd time, or the 3rd time, but for the 4th time, I wondered what God’s plan for me, as a mother, was. I thought, “Really? Baby number 4? God, You know I’m not the mom to handle this. What if I can’t do this? How am I going to take care of 4 kids? Are You sure?” Spoiler alert… He was sure.

Motherhood is hard. We’re drowning in diapers, sleepless nights, school projects, running kids to all the practices, and whatever else it might be that keeps our mom schedules busy. We may be given more than we feel we can handle. Maybe we doubt that we can even be a good mom, love our children enough, or lead them to Jesus. And maybe I’m being dramatic, but some days are so hard that the task of motherhood feels like pleading with Pharaoh to let all of his slaves free.

But here’s the truth. Motherhood is a calling from God. Part of your purpose here on earth, to increase the kingdom of God.

Mom friend, God loves you. He will not set you up to fail. He goes with you through motherhood, through all the hard seasons, and will help you “lead your people out of slavery”. No matter what kind of hard motherhood moments you face, no matter how much doubting you do, God has plans for you. He stays with you, guides you, sustains you, equips you, and most of all, loves you. Just like He did for Moses.

Action Steps:

Prayer: God, thank You for always being near when I call out to You. Thank You for Your plans, which I know are always better than mine. Help me in my hard seasons when I feel like my callings are bigger than I can handle. Take away my doubts and replace them with Your truth. You are so, so good. Amen.
