Am I Doing This Right?

“God knows our struggles and equipped us with so many amazing features to be used in our ministry of motherhood.”

“And now I’m going to tell you who you are, really are. You are Peter, a rock. This is the rock on which I will put together my church, a church so expansive with energy that not even the gates of hell will be able to keep it out. And that’s not all. You will have complete and free access to God’s kingdom, keys to open any and every door: no more barriers between heaven and earth, earth and heaven. A yes on earth is yes in heaven. A no on earth is no in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭16‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Ok Moms, do you ever put your kids to bed at night after a long and trying day, and then sit down and think to yourself, “What am I doing?? Am I doing this right?” You may feel inadequate and unsure of what your kids need from you. I understand these feelings, and so does God. He put those children in your life for a reason, and He won’t leave your side.

You might feel like Peter, who knew Jesus was calling him to lead the church, but he felt so unqualified. As moms, we may feel unqualified for our kids. And with each problem comes a new set of responsibilities or challenges. God knows our struggles and equipped us with so many amazing features to be used in our ministry of motherhood.

Here are a few ways God has qualified moms.

Moms are God’s handiwork (Ephesians 2:10).

Moms are made capable (Philippians 4:13

Moms are given strength in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Moms are ambassadors of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20

Moms are loved (1 John 4:7-11

Our motherhood is our ministry, our “church” that we’re putting together and leading, right now. So take some deep breaths and be patient with yourself. Continue to grow in your walk with God, and that will spill over into your parenting.

Action Steps

  • God's word has so many truths for us. Spend time each day in His Word, encouraging yourself to walk the walk and talk the talk with our kids.

  • Find a scripture that encourages you and try memorizing it. That way it’s the first thing to pop in your head during difficult moments.

  • Remember that you are God's masterpiece, he created and equipped you with the right tools for this job called Motherhood!

  • Listen to “When The Crazy Kicks In” by Francesca Battistelli- it’s a fun and uplifting song!

  • Listen to “You Are All I Need” by Dara Maclean

Prayer: Jesus, we come to You with open hearts and tired minds. We pray that You guide us through our motherhood journey. We thank You for the opportunity to show Your love to our children each day. Help us to walk with You in each moment, and help us grow stronger in the moments where we feel weak and ill-equipped. Lift our children up and guide them towards a life of loving You, too. Pour Your peace and patience over us. In Jesus’ name, Amen
