“Jesus invites us to trust in God's provisions. This invitation to cease our worrying is an invitation to rest”

“...for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” Matthew 6:8b NIV
I recently did a bible study in Matthew that went over chapter 6. In my bible, the header read “A cure for anxiety”. A cure? For anxiety? You mean to tell me I’ve been living almost my whole life with this and there's been a cure lying around?! Well hot dog! Count me in!
I sat and read Matthew 6, eager to find the cure that was promised. Surely I must have skipped over it in the past. But like usual, as I reread the already highlighted words, they sunk deeper and deeper, truths that I had already read before. So where was this cure if I had already read the scripture about it? Like a “lightbulb” moment, it hit me… His words were there, waiting for me to read again, and again. They have always been there; not a secret or a promise saved for those more worthy, more anxious. They were there, waiting for me to read them and reread them. God's living word, waiting for me to turn to them and breathe them in. And in that very second I realized that I’ve always known the cure. Sure, I might not have used that terminology, but years ago God graciously taught me that He is the answer. Just like I read in Matthew 6:8b, He knows what I need before I ask Him. He knew every time I would need to reread His word. He knows when my anxiety would be crushing. And He knows that He holds the cure.
Jesus invites us to trust in God's provisions. This invitation to cease our worrying is an invitation to rest. Not a thing in this world is a surprise to Him, friend. Nothing makes Him worry. And He does not need our worries to move mountains, should He choose.
Matthew 6 is loaded with verse after verse where God explains how important we are to Him… more important than the birds in the sky and yet they need for nothing… So won't He provide us with so much more than them, friend?
ACTION STEPS:
Listen to worship songs that remind us to give our worries to God. Some examples:
“Tremble” by Mosaic MSC
“I Speak Jesus” by Charity Gayle
Acknowledge every single time the enemy tries to attack your heart and mind. Hold those anxious thoughts captive. Declare that those thoughts are not from the Lord and you won’t have a part in them. Give it to Jesus every single time.
Prayer: Father, what a good God You are to know what we need and when we need it. I thank You that we can simply call out to You and You are there. I thank You that You know all and control all. What a sigh of relief it is to rest in the fact that I don’t have to worry or do life alone. I thank You that You are always victorious. I thank You that You have a good plan and that Your ways are so much better than our own. Remind us to turn to You, to turn to Your word and to continue to lay our worries and woes at Your feet, leaving them there with full trust in who You say You are. Amen.
